Contextual offers

We apply a contextual admissions process for UK undergraduate applicants who have been in care or are the first in their family to enter Higher Education. Those who are eligible may receive a conditional offer with reduced entry requirements, typically two grades lower for A-levels and one grade (or eight tariff points) for BTEC or mixed qualifications.

Mixed qualifications

Typically the only scenario where we make conditional offers expressed as UCAS tariff points is when an applicant presents mixed qualifications, most typically a combination of A-levels and a BTEC qualification.

In this instance, we may make a tariff point offer to present the applicant with more flexibility on equivalencies. In this case, please be aware that we may still ask for a specific score across certain qualifications and subjects. E.g. ‘This offer is conditional on you achieving 128 tariff points. This must include A-level Mathematics at grade B.’

Subject exclusions

We do not accept General Studies and Critical Thinking. These subjects will not be included in any conditional offer we make.

Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

We welcome applications from students who are completing relevant EPQ Projects. Whilst we recognise the value of these projects in preparing students for independent learning at university, the EPQ is unlikely to form part of any conditional offer we make.

The EPQ will also not lower the specifics of any conditional offer we choose to make. We will consider the EPQ as part of the holistic assessment of the application and it could be used to form part of our final decision at Confirmation stage.

AS levels

We recognise that there will be differences of opportunity varying by school and college. As not all students will have the opportunity to sit AS Level exams, it is unlikely we will include AS Level grades in any offer we choose to make. Where students have completed an AS Level subject, we will consider this as part of the holistic assessment of the application and it could be used to form part of our final decision at Confirmation stage.

If your first language is not English, we will require evidence of English language proficiency.

Minimum requirements are:

IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each component.

• PTE Academic: 59 overall with a minimum of 59 in each component.

After the first year, you may choose a more focused study track:

• Track A: triple threat training; singing, acting and dance.
• Track B: dance-based focus.
• Track C: singing/acting focus.

This allows you to choose a direction of study in the second and third year of the course that is in line with your natural talent and likely destination. These tracks give the opportunity to explore your strengths and passions in greater detail, and opens the degree to students whose strengths lie in or one or more specialist areas.

Year 1

In the first year of study you will study all disciplines in order to develop skills in the fundamental skills required for dance and musical theatre.

Year 2

In year two, alongside the core modules, you may choose a more focused study track: triple threat training, singer/acting focus or a more dance-based focus.

Year 3

In the third year, alongside the core modules, continue on your chosen study track.

Each module is assessed independently and methods may include:

• end-of-semester exams
• written assignments
• oral and poster presentations
• class tests
• practical and performance assessments
• and project reports.

The early years of your course are assessed mostly by guided and set assessment questions and tasks, developing over time to independent and tailored assessment in project and practical work. This model reflects your ability to specialise in Years 2 and 3, after undertaking thorough grounding of core principles at the start of your studies.

Feedback is an essential part of learning and we use a wide range of methods, such as written feedback on your assessments, class feedback sessions and discussions with your tutor. You’ll receive feedback on each assessment, highlighting the positives of your work as well as any areas that need more attention. Practical classes also enable students to receive continuous feedback through corrections and guidance on technique and performance.
